By: Brina Whittier Studying abroad may just seem like a long vacation to an outsider, but it’s actually a life-changing experience for many students. Last year, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study and live abroad in Luebeck, Germany for one year. I can honestly say that it changed my whole perspective about the world we live in. I was able to travel to 11 countries around Europe; many of which did not speak any English. From not being able to read a simple menu to acting out charades to communicate with natives, the experience opened my mind about how important it is to connect with different cultures. Studying abroad was a unique educational experience, not only from the different teaching techniques, but also from the interesting people I met along the way.

By Amanda MudlaffMother’s Day is a celebration put in place to honor our own mothers, as well as honoring the mothers of other’s families. The festivities of mother’s day were introduced in America to recognize how mothers have been the person that has done more for you than anyone else in the world. As a child that has been blessed to have a mother by my side all my life, I can agree with that statement.
By Namrata Trikha1. Holi is an ancient Hindu Festival celebrated as the festival of colors and it signifies the victory of good over evil, hence the celebrations. 2. Save the date! This year it falls on March 13, 2017.
By Abby BornSo what is Galentine’s Day? …well it’s only the best day of the year! Leslie Knope introduces Galentine’s Day on the television show Parks and Recreation as the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th, a day to celebrate your love for your gal pals and also your love for yourself (see Parks and Recreation, Season 2, Episode 16 –available on Netflix- for more details). I enjoyed a beautiful Galentine’s Day last year with my best girl friends. We took a trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum, enjoyed some delicious Mexican food, had a slumber party in a fancy hotel room, and of course, indulged in plenty of wine and chocolate. That was back when my main concerns were my classes and what flavor of ice cream I should order from room service.
By Kelsey MurzynOne of my favorite traditions growing up was (and still is) St. Nick’s Day. Finding an orange and chocolate coins in my shoes the morning of December 6th each year meant extra time spent with family before school that day and a reminder that Christmas was just around the corner. Although my small gifts this year (delivered to my college apartment) were a coffee mug and Reese’s Pieces, these simple gifts remind me that the holiday season is upon us and my family, even 90 miles away, is still very much present in my life.
